From the school that produced The Wombats, Eugene McGuiness and Sandi Thom, you'll be seeing bands in development, some further down the road than others, opinionated individuals who chant and occasionally curse. Nonetheless, in respect of this cultured metropolis, this muddy pool, we encourage artists to produce music because they mean it and because they can." | | | | | | | Keep an eye out for the Red Stripe VW Campervan, which will be making impromptu appearances around town, fully equipped with sound system & some special guests.

Musical success is seldom measured in time spans of more than a few years, if not Andy Warhol's oft quoted "fifteen minutes", so the fact that by the time Midge's single "If I Was" went to No1 in 1985 he had already crammed several musical lifetimes into a 10 year professional career speaks volumes - Slik, The Rich Kids, Thin Lizzy, Visage, Ultravox and of course the most famous one off group in musical history Band Aid had by then all had the guiding hand of his musical navigation.
Then you have to take account of Midge's musical directorship of a series of rock concerts for The Prince's Trust, Wicked Women for Breakthrough and in honour of Nelson Mandela; a Lord Provost award for services to Scottish music; record production for Phil Lynott, Steve Harley and countless others; his video direction of memorable hits by the Fun Boy Three, Bananarama and others, or a whole swathe of landmark singles by Ultravox; TV, theatre and film music credits ranging from 'Max Headroom' to stage and big screen.

Those who can’t attend the festival, can log onto Second Life and catch all the action from the conferences, gigs and parties. The festival itself is set to play host to a number of established acts such as Reverend and The Makers, The Wombats, DJ Yoda, and Hercules and Love Affair. Having built the entire Capital of Culture city in Second Life, Liverpool Sound City has recognised new media as a key portal for delivering festival and conference content to festival goers all over the world who can’t make the much anticipated event. Johnny Hudson from Creative Cultures, the company behind delivering streamed content from the festival into Second Life, said: “Sound City will be the first music conference to offer true interaction within a 3D environment. This presents a unique opportunity for an online audience to experience and interact with the conference and festival without actually having to be physically present.” Advancements in technology will mean those who attend the festival will also benefit with Bluetooth solutions within official venues allowing content and promotional material to be transmitted directly to their mobile handsets. Web channels including Second Life, Myspace and Youtube are being utilised to encourage engagement and allow Liverpool Sound City to provide fans with news, content and information up to and beyond the conference itself. | | | | | | | Tuesday 27th May at Liverpool FC Football Academy. 12 music industry, media and artist teams (6 a side) battle it out to get their name on the JP World Cup. The winners and runners up will receive their medals at the opening party for Sound City which will also be a John Peel Memorial night. This celebration will be hosted by The Farm and will include some amazing special guest live performances.
| | | | | | | Liverpool Sound City has announced several heavyweight industry moguls including Mike McCormack, deputy managing director of Universal, Ivor Novello winning producer Rick Nowles and Jon Webster, chairman of the Music Managers Forum, as part of its conference schedule. They will be joined by celebrity guest panelists such as ex-Smith's guitarist Andy Rourke, New Order's Peter Hook and acclaimed music journalist John Robb. The industry’s hottest and most sought after producers, artists, labels and executives will converge on Liverpool, to challenge the role of the music conferences and also debate the future of the industry. The debates and discussions promise to be lively; in particular Liverpool versus Manchester on which city has had a greater impact on the music industry. Liverpool Sound City will host a conference summit that will seek to question and debate the relevance and reason of other current music industry conferences and events...Where do they fit? How do they adapt? What truly is a conference’s function in the current climate? Just how integral a part do they play? Should unity from all events be demonstrated on some level?
This is not a battle to be recognised as the ‘best’ event but an opportunity for representatives from some of the major music conferences across the globe, including MIDEM, London Calling, SXSW, POPKOMM, The Great Escape, Musexpo and Womex to pose questions. Presented by music label executive Dave Pichilingi, this four day, multi-platform event will offer entertaining workshops and highly informative panels covering a mixture of topics regarding the business behind the music. Una Johnston (SXSW), Sat Bisla (MUSEXPO), Gerald Seligman (WOMEX) and Javier Lopez (MIDEM) to name a few will kick of the ‘Conference’ panel at the Hard Days Night Hotel on the 27th May. | | | | | | | Clash Magazine is proud to present their own very special party at the Liverpool Barfly on Thursday 29th May.
