Applications for Sound City Festival 2016 are now closed. We are overwhelmed with the quality and huge number of artists who have applied from all over the world. Thank you to everyone who took their time to fill out the application and expressed an interest in joining this year’s line up. With the help of our tastemakers, we are now reviewing all applications and will inform all acts of the status of their application as soon as possible.

To help us listen to the wide array of applications, we have brought in the help of some of the UK's finest tastemakers, to assist us in making informed decisions and ensure we are showcasing the very best emerging talent at Sound City 2016. This year's tastemakers include:
Chris Bye // Arts Council England
Director of Media & PR at Sound City, Chris also works as Music Relationship Manager for Arts Council England and has been heavily involved in increased support for contemporary alternative and popular music. As well as this he tips for Tipping Point, BA and Amazing Radio; does panel + judging things like the Kevin Spacey Music Awards; and moderates Tom Robinson's Fresh on the Net.
Carlo Solazzo // Birmingham Promoters
Carlo is the founder and a promoter for his own company, Birmingham Promoters, an independent live music, events & gigs promotions company based in Birmingham, UK. They host a diverse array of bands and DJs – everything from Ed Sheeran, Ben Howard & Joss Stone, to Editors, Two Door Cinema Club & The Twang, to GZA (Wu-Tang Clan), Beardyman & Tinie Tempah. Not forgetting the likes of Alabama Shakes, Mystery Jets, Athlete, The Fall, Metronomy, Wild Beasts, Pulled Apart By Horses, and much more.

David ‘Stumpy’ Hanvey // My First Music
David has worked in the Scottish music industry for 9 years. He has been running shows under the My First Music banner throughout this time along the central belt of Scotland, noteable clients have included Alabama 3, Cast, The Sunshine Underground, Fatherson, The Lafontaines to name a few. He also founded Kilmarnock's Dirty Weekender in 2011 and Glasgow's Dirty Weekender in 2014, both are multi venue city wide festivals with a broad scope of unsigned and established artists performing and is also a regional judge with the Scottish Alternative Music Awards 2012, 2013 & 2014.
"It was a real honour to be asked to help in the selection of up and coming Scottish artists to perform at Liverpool Sound City. If previous years are anything to go by the standard and calibre of submissions will be extremely high and I'm looking forward to getting stuck in and listening to these new artists".
Bob Allan // Generator
Bob work’s for Generator, the UK’s leading music development agency, managing their artist development programme ‘The Tipping Point’ and working with some of the best emerging artists across the UK. As the artist development manager he also produces Generator’s flagship live event Evolution Emerging, national touring network Mapped Out and showcases at national music industry conferences, offering a platform for the finest emerging talent in the North East and across the UK. Bob has worked at national music festivals, has a background as a musician for 14 years and a degree in Managing Cultural & Major Events. He has experience of performing at international festivals and touring in the UK and Europe as well as managing artists and delivering successful release campaigns. Bob currently performs and records with Bella Union signed artist Lanterns on the Lake.

Dave Monks // BBC Introducing Merseyside
presents the flagship new music programme BBC Introducing on Radio Merseyside. The programme is
place to go if you want to hear what happening on Merseyside’s’ vibrant music scene first.
BBC Introducing in Merseyside is an on-air focal point of Merseyside’s creative music scene. Local bands and artists get the chance to add their new tracks to the BBC Uploader, allowing the best ones to be played on air. As you can imagine, the Merseyside Uploader is one of the most popular in the country!
Simon Poole // Silent Radio
Born in Manchester in 2009 by a bunch of passionate music writers, Silent Radio has grown into one of the most popular, totally independent music websites in the North.
Known for its unbiased and anti-smug approach to music journalism, Silent Radio champions emerging musicians, smaller venues and DIY promotors through their handpicked monthly gig guide, live reviews, interviews and features. In 2014 the site launched a weekly live radio show that’s featured interviews with the likes of The Wave Pictures, The Lovely Eggs, Maxine Peake, Buzzcocks, Sleaford Mods, Kiran Leonard, Pins and live sessions from a whole host of other acts.
Amongst the writers are full time journalists, published authors, music students and lecturers. Silent Radio contributors don’t need a journalism degree, just an ear for a good tune and a huge love of music. Apply inside.
Jay Taylor // The Ruby Lounge
Jay Taylor was born in Manchester, the son of a bass player and a showgirl. He has been variously… In-house promoter-manager at Manchester’s Night & Day Café and Manchester235 Casino, a radio presenter, studio producer, illustrator (notably at Deadline Magazine alongside Jamie Hewlett et al), a music journalist, shoe model, Mister February in the inaugural Beards of Manchester calendar, Gold Blade guitarist, partner in the wonderful folly that was Manchester’s first urban beach project, and tour manager for the sensational Ren Harvieu. Jay is currently carving up his time between being running the diary at Manchester’s superb Ruby Lounge venue, promoting shows elsewhere under his Classic Slum moniker, and occasionally working as promoter’s rep for SJM Concerts; he’s also a Musician’s Union Gig Section committee member, and PRS Foundation advisor. Alongside toiling away on the 3rd LP from his unwieldy 8 piece combo Bone-box, Jay is also working on the soundtrack to the UFO road-movie documentary ‘Cosmic Whistleblowers’ out in 2015.
George Holmes // GeHo Events
George started GeHo Events in 2012 having been involved in booking shows in the town of Otley for two years. Since then George has worked with some amazing acts. These include, Delphic, Reverend & The Makers, The Sunshine Underground, Little Comets, to name just a few. George has also been involved in curating the LS21 Live Festival and Stage Managing Galtres Parklands Festival. He runs events in cities across the North of England and is also involved in artist management.

Tony Ereira // Hatch Records
Tony Ereira runs Leeds-based record label Hatch Records (Nine Black Alps, Then Thickens) and has also just launched a new social enterprise record label, Come Play With Me, planned to give emerging artists in the Leeds City Region a leg-up with their first physical release.
Frank Wilkes // DMF Digital
Frank Wilkes has over 30 years experience working in the music industry and has run a number of Yorkshire based music initiatives in this time. Frank is the founder of DMF Digital, a Sheffield based record label, publishing and events company.
Frank is also Skills Academy Manager for The National Skills Academy (Creative and Cultural) and oversees Yorkshire. This includes managing a funds to create 150 new creative apprenticeships across the whole of the region by 2016.
Mark Gordon // Generator NI
Mark Gordon works in programme development for Generator Northern Ireland-a three year programme designed to grow the music industry in Northern Ireland across its creative and business talents. His background in music includes recording 4 Peel Sessions with his first band, DJing in Russua, Japan and the USA and at festivals like CMJ and Bestival, and remixing for labels including Moshi Moshi and Saddle Creek. Mark also runs a music production company, Score Draw Music, that has worked with brands and broadcasters including Nickelodeon, Adidas, BBC, Durex, Milka and Channel 4, and has moderated panels and events on music supervision at SxSW, Primavera and Liverpool Sound City.

The Generator NI showcase we co-hosted this year at Liverpool Sound City provided our artists with an opportunity to showcase before labels, publishers, booking agents and festivals, and i'm delighted to be a part of that same offer for next year for emerging talent".
Fionna Allan // Horizons
Fionna Allan is a freelance Project Manager & Event Manager, who comes from a background of touring internationally as a Tour Manager & Production Coordinator.
She has worked on UK festivals including Swn Festival (Artist Liaison & Production Manager), Dinefwr Literature Festival (Festival Coordinator) and Green Man (Merchandise Manager) and on Australian festivals including Meredith Music Festival, Laneway and The Big Day Out.
She has toured across the world with artists including Hot Chip, LCD Soundsystem, The Kills, Peaches, Beth Ditto, The Pipettes and The Dirty Projectors. Fionna has also DJ’ed as part of all-girl DJ Collective The Vinyl Vendettas on top of mountains in France and Australia, and in clubs in Cardiff, London and New York.
Bethan Elfyn // BBC Wales
Bethan Elfyn has been broadcasting across BBC radio and TV since the late 1990s - first of all with local station BBC Radio Cymru, and moving to front the new shows for the Nations on BBC Radio One in 1999. The decade was spent firmly ensconced in the UK's music scene, hosting main stages at festivals across the land from Reading to Green Man and regularly curating and DJing band nights in Cardiff and London.
Bethan's also been on-screen as host of TV in Wales, currently presenting "Wales unsigned" for BBC 2 Wales. She is a also a regular presenter on BBC Radio Wales every Saturday night from 7 PM - 10 PM - a show which has seen the cream of the Welsh music crop come in to co-host, from Sir Tom Jones, to James Dean Bradfield, to Cerys Matthews and many more.
As well as the radio work, Bethan is a full time producer, and project manager with the Horizons Project; a scheme from BBC Wales and Arts Council of Wales, to nuture new Welsh talent. The scheme aims to find new platforms for Welsh music through radio, festivals, and international work.
Tiffany Daniels // The Drunken Werewolf
Tiffany Daniels is a journalist and writer primarily known for her music website, DrunkenWerewolf, but also contributing to Time Out, Metro and other publications across the UK. She consumes new music faster than water and tweets from
