With over a 1000 registered delegates and 40 panellists in 2009, the Liverpool Sound City international music business conference caters for everyone; from the young on the cusp of a career in the music industry to the more established entrepreneur looking to grow their business.

Conference2009 Panels featured international decision makers from the worlds of music, movies, mobile and multi media. Names such as Nic Harcourt from KCRW, Nanci Walker, VP of Universal Music Publishing (US), Alex Hackford of Sony Playstation (US), and Frank Takeshita of SummerSonic (Japan) all appeared alongside home grown legends including Will Sergeant of Echo and The Bunnymen and Billy Bragg.

Alongside the standard conference panels 2009 also saw the launch of ‘The Trial’. Set in the Victorian Law courts, Sound City developed a courtroom style interrogation of the industry’s most influential players including representatives from Warner, Fiction Records, MTV, The Guardian and NME. With the help of a real judge and barristers for the defence and prosecution, a jury made up of local school children had a rare opportunity to grill industry heads about the machinations and movements of the music industry.

Complimenting the panel sessions and Trial, the 2009 conference also offered audiences access to a series of seminars and discussion forums hosted by Musicians union, PPL, CMU and the Music Managers Forum (MMF).
